Steps
Fresh Strawberry Scones Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and diced
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- powdered sugar (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well until combined.
Step 3: Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients and mix until crumbly using your hands or a pastry cutter.
Step 4: Fold in the diced strawberries until evenly distributed.
Step 5: In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, heavy cream, and vanilla extract.
Step 6: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix or the scones will be tough.
Step 7: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it into a 1/2-inch thick circle.
Step 8: Cut the dough into 8 equal wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between each scone.
Step 9: Brush the tops of the scones with heavy cream and sprinkle with coarse sugar or chopped nuts (optional).
Step 10: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 11: Let the scones cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before dusting with powdered sugar if desired.
