Steps

  1. Grandma's Taffy Recipe
  2. Ingredients:
  3. * 1 cup sugar
  4. * 1/4 cup cornstarch
  5. * 3 egg yolks
  6. * 1 cup milk
  7. * 2 tablespoons butter
  8. * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. * Food coloring (optional)
  10. * Salt (optional)
  11. Instructions:
  12. 1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar and cornstarch until well combined.
  13. 2. Beat egg yolks in a separate bowl until they are light and fluffy.
  14. 3. Slowly pour the egg mixture into the saucepan, stirring constantly to avoid cooking the eggs.
  15. 4. Add milk to the saucepan and continue stirring over medium heat until the mixture thickens.
  16. 5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add butter and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  17. 6. If desired, divide the taffy mixture into separate bowls and add food coloring and salt to each bowl. Stir until well combined.
  18. 7. Lay a sheet of parchment paper on a flat surface and pour the taffy mixture onto it. Allow the taffy to cool for a few minutes.
  19. 8. Using your hands, pull the taffy into long strands, twisting it as you go. Repeat until all the taffy is pulled to your desired thickness.
  20. 9. Roll up the taffy tightly and place in an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  21. 10. Enjoy your delicious homemade grandma's taffy!
