Steps
Escalloped Oysters Main Dish Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb fresh shucked oysters
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- Breadcrumbs
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Step 2: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and onion and cook until softened, about 2 minutes.
Step 3: Add the flour to the skillet and stir until well combined with the butter mixture. Cook for another minute, stirring constantly.
Step 4: Gradually pour in the milk, whisking as you go. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce has thickened, about 5 minutes.
Step 5: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Step 6: Add the shucked oysters to the skillet and spoon the sauce over them. Season with additional salt and pepper if desired.
Step 7: Transfer the oysters to a baking dish.
Step 8: Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over the oysters.
Step 9: Top with breadcrumbs.
Step 10: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
Step 11: Serve the escalloped oysters hot with lemon wedges.
