1. Rinse the basmati rice in cold water and soak it for about an hour. Drain and add it to a pot with 2 cups of water, along with cumin seeds.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
3. Allow the rice to cook for about 18-20 minutes or until it's cooked and all the water is absorbed.
4. In another pan, heat oil on medium flame. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, ginger-garlic paste, and finely chopped green chilli.
5. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onion turns golden brown. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and red chili powder (if using).
6. Mix well and cook for another minute, then transfer the cooked rice to the pan with the spices.
7. Mix well and cook for about 2-3 minutes until the rice absorbs the spices.
8. In a separate pot, melt butter and pour cream or heavy cream into it.
9. Pour the cream over the cooked rice and mix well until everything is evenly coated.
10. Garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
Tips:
- If you don't have basmati rice, you can use any other long-grain rice.
- You can adjust the spices according to your taste.
- Don't overcook the rice, as it may become mushy.
- You can add some chopped tomatoes or peas for extra flavor and nutrition.
